The Chats — Brudenell Social Club 4th December

It was just like any other Wednesday, Adam and Owain ventured to the Brudenell for their weekly tradition of ‘Pool and Pints’. Yet again, the pool tables were full. At first, what seemed like a wasted journey would turn out to be an unforgettable night.

Two early birds offered their tickets to The Chats, two night owls accepted. Our fate was set. We would only have to wait one hour to witness the legendary Australian three-piece. Entering the main room, Tetley’s and Virtuous in hand, we were met by an electric atmosphere. From the bald hard-men, to the gig newbies and indie try-hards, a mixed crowd congregated at the front of the stage. The untrained eye could mistake the raucous atmosphere for a hostile environment, but only love was found in that room. As the first chord of “We are the Champions” hit, the crowd erupted into a frenzy.

The intensity set from the outset would not cease until the closing of the gig. All of the crowd favourites were played: from “I’m the Best Person in the World”, “Bus Money” and “Mum Stole My Darts”. However, the biggest ovation of the night came from their viral classic ‘Smoko’ – the punters were up for it and the band were only happy to oblige. The Chats finished their set with our personal favourite “Pub Feed”, the only thing higher than the energy were the waves of crowd-surfers, riding not only the audience but the vibe as well.

All in all, this was one of those nights to remember. Bring on next Wednesday. Give us your free tickets.
